Reservoir Dogs could be called a before and after film, with flashbacks to before the heist taking place through out as the gang of stangers try to figure out who is an under cover officer and how they’re going to sort out their situation. If we compare this text with ‘The Italian Job (1969)’ we see massive genre convention differences, a usual convention of a common heist film such as ‘The Italian Job’ is the fast pasted escape scene which ensue whereas ‘Reservoir Dogs’ has none of this. The most notable genre adaptation used by Tarantino is the fact that the heist is neve r seen within the film, it shows before and after said heist this is very unusual within the heist genre as the actual heist scene is commonly the climax of the film. Most people didn’t hear about him until he made Pulp Fiction, but I somehow came across this movie when it was released on video in 1993.
